Richard the usurper
I don't like this usurping man
for me he’s just an
also-ran.
His brother Edward, the King,
gave young Richard
everything.
Land in Yorkshire, Gloucester too,
power and wealth he did
accrue.
When Edward died suddenly
Richard acted wantonly.
‘My
brother’s a b-stard his children too’
the boys now Richard did
pursue.
Lord Protector his new role
public opinion he did not
console.
The boys installed then in the Tower
whilst Richard planned
their final hour.
Hastings, elder boy’s coronation man,
came to the Tower
to reveal the plan.
Richard screamed ‘off with his head’
in a couple
of minutes Hastings dead.
The boys disappeared without a trace
no order
given to search the place.
Two hundred years later, bodies found,
foot
of White Tower their burial ground.
No wonder Richard ordered no
search,
fearing removal from his lofty perch.
At Bosworth his army
refused to fight
while many a Norfolk man took flight.
For Richard a
suicidal charge downhill.
For Henry's men an easy kill.
