Paras, a rough start.
The Russians had them Germans too,
not really something new. Russia repelled an Afghan attack in the twenties, that far back. Churchill started Britain’s call bothered by the Belgians fall. It didn't break Churchill’s heart not the end, just the start. “ I want five thousand paratroop men thank you very much gentlemen” He only got five hundred though inexperience began to show. Ringway Manchester they trained a few killed, equipment blamed. Recruitment was very slow a change to break the status quo. Lt.Col. Strange, moved to oneside a little loss of pride. Wing Commander Newnham installed as the new man. Captive balloons brought in jumping from them helping. Instructors with megaphones directing to selected zones. Churchill got his five thousand men the lions roar had worked again. Much equipment designed, tested. the airborne smock liked and attested.
