The blue grass state a Kentucky boy
eventually becoming the real McCoy.
In education Lincoln self taught
stood alone in mind, thought.
His freedom fight caused much strife
he hated slavery all his life.
Farmhand, lawyer then politician
great insight and ambition.
A rocky ride for political might
not all issues about black, white.
A more unified America was his game
modernizing industry another aim.
Opposed to the Mexican war
called it pro-slavery and more.
In eighteen sixty he became President
In sixty one a White House resident.
On April 12th civil war
declared
the Fort Sumter attack well prepared.
President Lincoln managed the war
encouraging Union esprit de corps.
Eighteen sixty five a Union victory
Lincoln gains esteem and dignity.
At Fords theatre Washington DC
President Lincoln ends life journey.
A bullet to back of his head
the next day our hero was dead.
