Son of a preacher man they say,
becoming much more famous in his day,
starting early aged just four,
on the piano he plays his first score.

So piano it was into his twenties,
standing out among his contemporaries,
in 'Forty Three his voice first recorded,
half a million bought and applauded.

That wonderful voice brought him more fame,
his country and world acclaim,
an incandescent tranquil voice,
pitch impeccable a verbal Rolls Royce.

The first African American with a TV show,
those white supremacists letting him know,
national sponsorship gradually whittled away,
but Nat unforgettable to this day.
