Fallow Awhile

Fallow Awhile. That quiet corner of a field with nothing edible to yield not to satisfy man's dreams missed by man's machines Fallow a word I recall nothing grows at all bare, wasted, tired a little rest required Not for long though nature wont let go little bursts of green rough ground between The thistle says hello watch this space grow weeds will abound Ignored on fallow ground Then weeds disappear hedge-row plants appear cow parsley, campion, nettles and garlic mustard settles Not big enough to run the show shrubby plants start to grow bramble, dog rose, come on stage tough stayers take advantage Hawthorn, blackthorn, very tough a dense thicket of tangled stuff the quiet corner, fallow no more this final stage will endure.
