I a prosperous family life began
At fifteen he began to draw
Then father insisted he withdraw
Architecture father would advocate
Failing exams he had to abate
Then a break in his career
Franco-Prussian war a volunteer
Paris after his taste of war
What he wanted he knew for sure
Pastel and oil he favoured most
With these mediums he was engrossed.
