---------------------------------------------------
A very auspicious start to life,
not beset with trouble or strife,
nurse, boarding school, it began,
his parents distant, also ran.
The British Empire at its peak,
the establishment, proud, chic,
gaslight and candles prevailed,
the telephone, yet to be hailed.
John Churchill made the family name,
a clever soldier in Queen Annes reign,
international status, military well known,
Anne financed his Blenheim home.
After Johns death the family name,
not really getting national acclaim,
young Winston would change all that,
with writing, politics, military combat.
Brighton, Harrow, Sandhurst schooled,
confident, bossy, often overruled,
1900 his breakthrough came,
winning Oldhams political game.
Forty years later he became PM,
Hitler causing international mayhem,
Churchill relishing the oncoming fight,
rallying the country and all its might.
