1972, baby Joe shows shows his face,
Well To Do won the Aintree race,
Carlos Monzon world middle weight champ,
Butlins sold their camps to Rank.
Joe's father Enzo a Sardinia man,
But Enzo's father had another plan,
The Bedford brickyards on Englands soil,
Joe's grandfather Guiseppe began to toil.

The Calzaghe's were a restless lot,
But playing sport the usual upshot,
England , Sardinia, football and fight,
Both sports played with much delight.
At school Joe packed the football team in,
To spend more time in the boxing gym,
Bullied, hassled, shouted out,
The kids gave Joe some clout.
But Joe fancied the warrior's sport,
To stand alone, face the onslaught,
Never beaten in a professional bout,
You should have heard them, scream, shout
