Normandy

D Day. The Falaise Pocket.

Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, Sword success
Omaha causing most distress.
Six days fighting to link all five
over four thousand allies did not survive.

The bocage of Normandy made progress slow
we hadn't took Caen or Saint Lo.
A breakout needed momentum regained
Omar Bradley called Monty and explained.

Monty approved of Gen. Bradley’s plan
the plan imaginative and Bradley elan.
So operation Cobra swung into action
with enthusiasm, passion.

Field Marshal Gunther von Kluge prepared
but allied fighter bombers undeterred.
The Falaise pocket about to be closed
Marshall Kluge would be deposed.

Hitler ordered him to fight on
Kluge knew it was his swan song.
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
Kluge committed hari kari.
